Tanu Island to Ninstints Kayak Tour - Sea Kayaking Gwaii Haanas National Park and Haida Heritage Site

OverviewItineraryGetting HereTrip PreparationArea MapReservations

Below is a sample itinerary and exact routes will vary depending on possible wildlife sightings, currents, tides and weather.

Day 0: Plan to be in Sandspit the night before your trip departs. This will give you a chance to meet our staff, pack your dry bags, organize your gear, and buy any last minute items.
Meals Included: None

Day 1: You will be picked up at your accommodation at approximately 7:30 AM for transport to your departure point. Depending on the trip, numbers, and weather, your transport to the field will either be by open zodiac or floatplane.

Upon arrival at the remote campsite, you’ll meet your guides who will provide you with a safety briefing and an orientation to the National Park. You’ll then have a chance to try out your kayaks for the first time, exploring the area close to camp. Depending on the trip, we may either stay at this spot for the first night, or move on to another camp in the afternoon.
Meals Included: Lunch - Dinner

Days 2 to 14: Starting near the northern boundary of Gwaii Haanas, near the abandoned Haida village of Tanu, this trip will travel south, stopping each day at a new wilderness campsite. You can expect to see few people, and those that you do will likely be near the Haida cultural sites.

As we head south, we’ll travel through Darwin Sound, Juan Perez Sound, before crossing past Skincuttle Inlet and Carpenter Bay. Towards the south end, we’ll turn west into Houston Stewart Channel, and catch the first glimpses of the west side of Haida Gwaii. Most of our time will be spent traveling the east coast of Moresby Island and the smaller islands close to it.

Day eight will be a rest/turnover day, with some guests leaving us, and others arriving. We will also resupply with fresh food for the remainder of the journey.

The guides will pick the route each day after considering the goals of the trip, abilities of the guests, and the weather and sea state. No two trips are identical, but all are amazing experiences.
Meals Included: Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

Day 15: On the last day of the kayak tour, you’ll have time to reminisce about the previous days over a leisurely breakfast. Your transportation generally arrives about midday and whisks you back to Sandspit where you’ll have the opportunity to get together with the rest of your group for a farewell dinner.
